At the beginning of March 2019 we ran one of our best and biggest ever, YogaHikes Brathay Hall breaks.
Each day we included a choice of two beginner or intermediate yoga classes. We also included a choice of either low level or high level guided hikes through the stunning scenery of the Lake District.
We based ourselves at the traditional stately home of Brathay Hall. The hall has plenty of space for us to run concurrent yoga classes and a great dining hall and bar/lounge with views of the Lake for relaxing.
It was a great weekend with a fantastic fun group and this was just one very kind review left for us after the weekend:
“Had amazing weekend thanks to Yoga Hikes. Met some lovely people, ate some great food and the yoga practices really helped prepare and restore body pre and post hikes. Highly recommend a weekend with them and can’t wait to go on another weekend with them.”
We scheduled arrivals from around 4pm to check in and unpack, then our first yoga class began at 6pm. We had two yoga rooms with great views of the lake and grounds plus two yoga teachers to kick our classes off for the weekend.
Following yoga a few us headed into the bar to grab a drink to then take into dinner in the main dining room. We then sat down to enjoy a delicious meal with tasty vegetarian and meat options followed by desert.
We always include a short briefing and overview so everyone knows what to expect over the weekend, so after dinner we settled into the lounge for a quick chat about the break.
We start the day with yoga classes to wake up and energise our bodies in preparation for the days hikes. Then its in for a full cooked breakfast, pack rucksacks and grab one of our pre prepared packed lunches.
We have a choice of two guided hikes for today. The first option for the strenuous and adventurous who want to bag a summit and high views. This hike takes us to the summit of Wansfell with great views over Windermere and Ambleside then through the pretty village of Troutbeck.
The second hiking option was a lower level and scenic hike around the lake shores and finishing with equally stunning views over Lake Windermere. We also took the opportunity for a little bit of extra yoga practice.
Then it was into the lounge for lots of tea, coffee and of course Yen’s homemade cakes to refresh ourselves after our hikes.
There was then some time to relax before our evening yoga class to stretch out and loosen any stiff or aching muscles.
Saturdays evening meal was a delicious choice of curries which was well appreciated and enjoyed and seemed the perfect choice after a day of fairly mixed Lake District weather.
On Sunday we again started with Yoga followed by cooked breakfast. Then again it was pack and grab a selection of sandwich and snacks for packed lunch.
We offered a choice of two more classic walks on Sunday. The first was a great hike over Loughrigg Fell to the summit viewpoint with stunning views over Grasmere, Windermere and the western hills.
For the slightly more moderate option we arranged minibus transport down the Langdale Valley to the New Dungeon Ghyll. From here we hiked from the Langdale Pikes along the cumbria way, through Elterwater to the waterfalls at Skelwith.
Both groups met up at Skelwith and we hiked the final mile or so back together for our final yoga class of the weekend. We then had a birthday to celebrate before departures so we had even more of an excuse (not that we ever need one) to eat plenty of cake.
It was a really enjoyable weekend and even the weather behaved by staying mainly dry and saving the heaviest downpours for when we were safely indoors and eating cake.
And we can’t finish this post without one final kind review we received after the break:
“Another fab weekend! Thanks for a fantastic break. Great yoga, hiking, people and delicious home made cake👍 Look forward to seeing you again soon.”
