St Marks Stays is in a gloriously peaceful location overlooking the Howgill Fells. This weekend also falls over 5th November and we have a fire pit and chairs on site. So if the weather is fine we may plan to have our own little fireworks evening, complete with bonfire in the pit.
We are based on the Eastern fringes of the Lake District at Sedbergh and close to the Howgill Fells. It may not be an area you are familiar with. But we hope that after our weekend at St Marks Stays, you may be heading back again soon.
It is ideal for walking and enjoying this exquisite region of rare natural beauty. We will offer vegetarian food and great accommodation with stylish rooms, stunning views and peaceful ambience.
If you are looking for a quieter yoga and hiking break, on the outskirts of Cumbria. Then this yoga and hiking break at St Marks Stays in the Howgill Fells may be ideal for you. We are only 13 miles from Oxenholme station at Kendal, but it is a much lesser known and quieter area. It is a gloriously peaceful location which is ideal for our long weekend away.
This weekend also falls over 5th November and we have a fire pit, chairs and nice gardens on site. So if the weather is fine we will plan to have our own little fireworks evening, complete with bonfire in the pit. This is weather dependent.
We are based just on the Eastern fringes of the Lake District at Sedbergh and close to the Howgill Fells. Sedbergh is known as Englands book town in the north and it is an extremely attractive little town. The town is bustling with quaint old shops and restaurants with great views of the surrounding Howgill Fells.

On Saturday and Sunday, after yoga and breakfast, we will be hiking about 9 to 10 miles to explore the local area around St Marks Stays. There are several stunning hikes we can choose from, eg Cautley Spout, but you should expect to be out for a full day and return to St Marks around 4pm.
The hikes will include sections of rough and possibly wet ground, but will be mainly on good footpaths. There may also be significant uphill sections, so we can enjoy some good views and we sometimes hike to a minor summit.
On Monday, we will do a shorter hike of around 7-8 miles down also from the door, to explore the fells.
We have some fantastic scenery and country to explore and we are unlikely to see crowds, as we get away from it all.
These walks are moderate walks of up to 10 miles each day. However, it is still the Lake District and so there will be some steep and rocky sections and possibly wet and boggy sections. Therefore a good level of fitness is required and boots are strongly advised.
ALL HIKES WILL BE LED BY A LOCAL QUALIFIED MOUNTAIN LEADER
There will be a total of 6 classes during the weekend starting with the first class on Friday evening. We then offer two yoga classes each day with a walk in between through the stunning scenery of the Howgill Fells.
The cosy yoga studio is in the main building just to the side of the house views of the surrounding hills. The room is ideal for yoga as it has a wooden floor and has a bright and airy feel.
The yoga is varied and so will be suitable for beginners as well as for those who have practised before and classes will take place before breakfast and after we return from our walk.
The general focus of the morning sessions will be to energise and warm up the body for our walk, and in the afternoon, will be to stretch out those tired muscles and relax the body and calm the mind. Yoga and hiking are a good combination, and everyone leaves feeling rejuvenated and re-energised.
Please bring your own yoga mat and pillow case as a minimum. Other yoga equipment is provided (brick, block, strap, bolster, blanket and scented eye pillow), but you may prefer to bring your own if you have any.
If you have any queries regarding the yoga sessions, please contact us.
The house is set in a quiet, elevated position with panoramic views over the Valley to the hills beyond.
There are a variety of bedrooms for you to dream the night away, a mix of twins that can also be doubles, and on the top floor a double and another room having a bunkbed (double on the bottom and single on the top), these two bedrooms will be available for single occupancy and have a shared bathroom with a bath, but no shower ; the other bedrooms are all ensuite. All rooms are individually furnished and are bright and airy, and all bathrooms have toiletries supplied by a local company, making for a very comfortable stay for our walks in the Howgill Fells.
All rooms are in the main house :
Two rooms available for single occupancy (one is a double and the other is a bunkbed with a double on the bottom and single on the top) and these share a bathroom. The bathroom has a bath but no shower.
Twin rooms with ensuite bathrooms available for twin share (these rooms can also be made into doubles for couples so please ask)
For this weekend, it would also be possible to bring a guest or non-yoga friend, or partner. We are limited on numbers for yoga due to the size of the yoga room, but we do have more more capacity in terms of bedrooms. So if you have a guest who is happy to participate in the hiking over weekend, but not the yoga then they would be most welcome to join. This place will be priced at £100 discount for the weekend.
If you would like to take the non-yoga space, please contact us before you make a booking as there is only one available. Once we have confirmed it is available you can proceed with booking in the normal way and your discount of £100 will be applied to the cost when the balance is due.

Getting Back
On Sunday, departure day, there is a train from Oxenholme departing 16:43 (arriving London Euston 2003, en route other connections). We will arrange a drop off for this train after the last yoga class, for those who have booked pick up and drop off with us.
The trains from Windermere do not run regularly on Sunday, so having the transfer go directly to Oxenholme, saves time and means we can have a reasonable hike on Sunday.
The easiest ticket to buy is a return from Windermere or a return from Oxenholme (and buy the small local journey between Oxenholme and Windermere separately)
Please note that recommended train times may change closer to the time.
