Our Autumn Rydal Yoga Hiking break will be based at the very popular, the very grand and very historic, Rydal Hall.

We are just a few minutes walk from Rydal Water, Rydal Mount (Wordsworth’s home) and the picturesque church where William Wordsworth was church warden.

Rydal Hall is a stunning location and steeped in Lake District history, so join us for a very special weekend of yoga and hiking.

Barn Yoga studio at Rydal

For this event we are offering single group yoga classes to cover all abilities and a single group hike.

The Autumn Rydal Hall yoga hiking weekend will begin with arrivals from 3pm on Friday and our first class will be at 5:30pm with dinner at 7:00pm.

Rydal Hall has plenty of history being owned by the Le Fleming family which can be traced back to 1126. It was built in the 16th century and has been enlarged, altered and refaced to what it is now currently, a grade II listed building along with the terraces, bridges, summerhouses and various outbuildings.  The magnificent formal gardens are worthy of a visit, and offer a unique example of Edwardian gardening with beautiful lawns and flowers set against the fine architecture of the Hall itself.  The Hall is now used as retreat and conference centre and is owned by the Diocese of Carlisle.  The grounds of the hall are available for us explore freely for the whole weekend and provide tranquil and scenic gardens for a quiet moment or two.

October Break at Rydal Hall

Rydal Beck and its natural waterfalls flows through the grounds which include The Grot, a summerhouse built to view the waterfalls.  The Grot is described in Wordsworth poem, An Evening Walk.

We will lead a single group hike on each day as part of this weekend.  There are a great variety of lovely walks we can take directly from our accommodation depending upon weather and conditions, but our most regular Saturday walk is from Rydal is alongside Rydal Water and Loughrigg Terrace to Grasmere.

coronavirus health & safety

On Sunday we can walk round to the quiet and picturesque Loughrigg Tarn and then over Loughrigg fell on our way back.

The walks may vary depending on the weather conditions at the time but we have lots of options to choose from.

Walks are graded moderate, but please note that the Lake District is not flat, so there will be some steep and maybe rocky sections so a reasonable level of fitness is needed.

Our approximate walking time will be 5-6 hrs and a distance of 8-9 miles for the Saturday, and slightly less on the Sunday.

Please note that for all walks, a good level of fitness and hillwalking experience is required.

There will be a total of five classes during the weekend starting with the first class on Friday evening.  We offer two yoga classes on Saturday with a walk in between through the stunning scenery of the Lake District. There will also be a yoga class on Sunday morning before breakfast and then when we return from our hike, before departing.

To increase scope for social distancing (if still required) we will be using the spacious Bishop Pulley barn for classes for this weekend.

Barn Yoga studio at Rydal

The yoga barn is just across the back courtyardf rom the main hall with lovely views out to the gardens and hills beyond.

The yoga is varied and so will be suitable for beginners as well as for those who have practised before and classes will take place before breakfast and after we return from our walk.

The general focus of the morning sessions will be to energise and warm up the body for our walk, and in the afternoon, will be to stretch out those tired muscles and relax the body and calm the mind. Yoga and hiking are a good combination, and everyone leaves feeling rejuvenated and re-energised.

Please bring your own yoga mat and a pillowcase (to cover our bolsters) and any other yoga props you have. We are able to provide a bolster, block, brick, strap, eye pillow and blanket.

If you have any queries regarding the yoga sessions, please contact us.

All rooms for this weekend are either single en-suite or twin en-suite (ideal for couples or friends who are happy to share), and a small number of singles with private bathrooms for sole use.   All rooms have tea and coffee making facilities and towels.

Rydal Hall resides in 34 acres of stunning parkland in the heart of the English Lake District. The main house is a Grade II listed historic house with some parts dating back to the 1600s.

All rooms have been upgraded to provide comfortable en-suite or private facilities. All food is freshly prepared in the kitchen using local and seasonal produce wherever possible and dinner is three courses and is served in the grand dining room.

(please note that Rydal Hall can cater for vegetarians and non-vegetarians and other dietary requirements if advance notice is given)

While staying at Rydal Hall we can explore the beautiful Lake District surroundings and simply enjoy the peace and quiet at the hall and its beautiful gardens.
