A Lake District yoga hiking weekend at the beautiful Nab Cottage beside Rydal Water. This is a Yoga Hiking Weekend of relaxing yoga and invigorating walks in a beautiful corner of the Lake District, which is often associated with the Romantic poets.

We have a wonderful converted barn for our yoga practice, and our accommodation is steeped in history and has plenty of areas to find peace and solitude to read, contemplate or just enjoy the stunning views. All meals are vegetarian and food is prepared for us by the owners of the cottage and is organic and fairtrade where possible.

Rooms are mostly twin share, and most have ensuites, although some also share bathrooms.

If you are coming on you own as most do, we will allocate you a room with someone else from the group of the same sex

This Lake District yoga hiking weekend starts with Friday dinner and a yoga session later, so it is advisable to leave work early on Friday. There will be a total of 5 yoga classes over the weekend and we will have guided walks on Saturday and Sunday. You will leave us feeling rejuvenated in mind, spirit and body, and extremely fortunate to have spent time at Nab Cottage.

Nab Cottage dates from 1556 and is a traditional cottage, standing alone on the side of Rydal Water, in the centre of the English Lake District. The cottage was once the home of opium-smoking Thomas De Quincey, an acquaintance of the poets Coleridge and Wordsworth. The situation is perfect for a Lake District yoga hiking weekend; surrounded by mountains in the heart of the valley, yet only 2 miles from Ambleside and Grasmere.

We have the house on a sole use basis and the house sleeps up to 16 in twin bedrooms, the majority having ensuite bathrooms. Next to the cottage is a beautifully converted Lakeland barn which we will have for our yoga practice.

There is an outdoor hot tub with views onto Rydal Water which we are free to use and a small sauna in the converted barn.

Breakfast, packed lunch, and dinner are included and all meals are vegetarian and use fresh and largely organic and fairtrade ingredients. Mealtimes are eaten together in the farmhouse dining room.

Please note that this weekend starts with yoga at 18:00 on the Friday evening, so please plan to arrive between 16:00 – 17:30.

If you would like to arrive earlier in the day, we cannot guarantee a transfer from Windermere train station, but it is possible to use the bus service to get to Nab Cottage where you can enjoy exploring the house and gardens.

The location is perfect for a variety of walks along the shores of Grasmere and for exploring the village itself.

Autumn can be a lovely time to explore the Lake District as the trees are coming into colour, the weather can still be pleasant for walking and its less busy.

On Saturday we are likely to walk from the cottage along Loughrigg Terrace and down into Grasmere, where we can then extend our walk up to Easedale tarn.  Easedale Tarn is lovely beauty spot which embodies many of the things that make the Lake District so special.  We walk beside a tumbling stream to a quiet location overlooking a remote and stunning Lake, with great views back down the valley to the village.

On Sunday we are likely to hike around Loughrigg Fell to another of our favourite locations around Loughrigg Tarn.  We can complete a circuit of the Fell or make our way to the summit if the weather is good and we are feeling energetic.

The walks will be led by Kevin Blissett who is a fully qualified International Mountain Leader.

The weekend will offer an opportunity to learn about yoga, improve and develop your practice and get out walking to enjoy the beautiful scenery surrounding the Cottage. There will be five yoga classes led by Yen Yau, who is a fully qualified yoga teacher and personal trainer.

The yoga will be suitable for beginners and those who have practised before. We have also included a session on Friday evening  before dinner, and this session will be a gentle welcome to get you in the mood for the weekend.  Yoga and hiking are a great combination, mobilising, energising yoga with some flow in the morning, followed by some more restorative and static yoga after our hiking.

The general focus of the morning sessions will be to energise and warm up the body for our walk, and in the afternoon, will be to stretch out those tired muscles and relax the body.  There will be an emphasis on the breath and movement, and our priority is for the yoga to be enjoyable and safe for all.

Mats and a limited number of props will be provided for your use but feel free to bring your own mat if you prefer.

The cottage dates from 1556 and the bedrooms are cosy with beautiful views across the lake or up the fell at the back. Downstairs is a sitting room with log fire, dining room with computer and piano, and small TV room.

We have the house on a sole use basis, which sleeps up to 16 mainly in a mixture of twin ensuite rooms and twin rooms with shared bathroom.  There are therefore pricing options for a twin with shared bathroom (£270) or for a small upgrade price, an ensuite bathroom (£295).  There are also two single rooms , one with an ensuite (£320) and one with shared facilities (£295)

Getting There

Suggested train from Euston Station to Windermere train station (This same trains can also be picked up from Manchester and other stops) :

Friday 25/10 – Depart 12:30, Arrive 15:55

A pick up from Windermere for this train at 1600 can be booked and paid for at booking.

Getting Back

Sun 27/10 – Depart 17:14 Oxenholme,  Arrive 20:11

We can drop you off after the last yoga class, departing Nab at 1615.
Please note that the return transfer is to Oxenholme Station (not Windermere) – as the train timetable has changed meaning only 1 service operates out of Windermere an hour, and it makes more sense to have the drop off to Oxenholme.

Please note that recommended train times may change closer to the time.

Depending on where you are coming from, when you are booking etc, it is probably best to book a return from Oxenholme, and buy a separate ticket for the short journey between Oxenholme and Windermere on arrival day.

Train tickets are best bought in advance online and cheap tickets are usually issued 12 weeks before travel at Trainline tickets online
