Hiking and Yoga in the Lake District

Hiking and Yoga in the Lake District – Accommodation at Lanehead

Lanehead is an exceptional period property situated on the eastern shores of Coniston Water, a Lake District home like no other. A fantastic and unique base to come together for our May Bank Holiday weekend of Yoga and Hiking. It is perfect for our group and we have the entire property for our exclusive use.

Accommodation will be in a mix of rooms. twin share, triple share and also 4 person rooms.  The house at full capacity can accommodate 29, but for this break, our group size will be 23, so there will be plenty of space.

All rooms are ensuite with great views of the surrounding grounds and hills.

Hiking

We will be offering hikes on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.  Coniston offers us a huge variety of stunning hikes over the fells or around the lakes.

Hiking and Yoga in the Lake District

Because of its location Coniston is perfect for our May Bank Holiday hiking and yoga in the Lake District weekend and offers great options for hiking from the door.

For this event we are able to offer a choice of hike each day : a more strenuous hike or moderate hike.  You will be asked to sign up for the hike of your choice upon arrival.

Yoga

At Lanehead we have our own dedicated room which we will use for our yoga classes.

For this event we are able to offer yoga classes according to ability and we will ask for you choice of class upon booking.

We have found that we do have a wide range of ability during our weekends from beginners to teachers.

So for this weekend, at each yoga session slot there will be an improver/gentler class for those who are new or returning to yoga, (also suitable for those who may have an injury or a specific concern) and also an intermediate class for those who practice regularly or those with a longstanding practice.

You will be able to attend 6 yoga classes during the break.
We offer a yoga class on Friday evening before dinner and then 5 more classes during the Bank Holiday.  A morning class Saturday and Sunday, and a class upon returning from our hikes on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

There will be two yoga teachers who will teach the classes and will split the classes so irrespective of your level, you will have two teachers over the weekend.

Hike Information

Walk options will depend on the weather and current conditions.  However, these are typical options and if the weather is suitable we will be offering these walks or similar.  If the conditions are not suitable the walk options will be reduced, but we will still offer walks whatever the weather.

NB If you have been with us before where there has only been a single group hike, this is our moderate yoga hike.  The strenuous options cover more distance, height gain and descent, possibly over some rougher ground, and at a slightly faster pace.

Strenuous Option
Saturday TBC
Sunday TBC
Mon TBC

Please note for the strenuous walks, a good level of hill fitness and hillwalking experience is required as there will be longer sections of ascent and descent, on rough terrain, and covering more distance at a good pace.

Moderate Option

Saturday (11km, 450m of ascent)
On our first day we will take a hike up along some beautiful woodland trails to the picturesque spot of Tarn Hows.  We can explore around the lake where there are some lovely viewpoints of the surrounding hills and the Tarn itself.  Our return will take alongside a river and down through more woodland with some stunning waterfalls.  We then head into the village of Coniston, where we take a break and explore, before we head back to Lanehead.

Sunday (11km, 350m of ascent)
We will hike around the western shore of the lake where we will get stunning views across the water and of the surrounding Coniston hills.  There is then a short uphill section to reach Kelly Hall Tarn which is a fabulous spot for photos and to explore.  We then head back over to Coniston Water for a short Ferry ride (not included in the price) across to Brantwood the famous home of Ruskin.  Then its a short walk back to Lanehead.

Monday (11km, 450m of ascent)
Our final hike of the weekend will take us exploring the beautiful forest of Grizedale.  It has some gorgeous forest trails and views over Coniston Water and towards Windermere.  Also, if we have time we will aim to visit the famous and picturesque village of Hawkshead, with its lovely pubs and tea shops.

NB: These walks are moderate walks by Lake District Standards of about 11km (7.5 miles) each day with a steady but relaxed pace. However, as it is the Lake District, there may still be steep and rocky sections and possibly wet and boggy sections. Therefore a good level of fitness is required and boots are strongly advised.  All of our weekends are aimed at people who have a good level of hiking and general fitness.

Please note all hikes will be led by qualified Mountain Leaders
