Grasmere Yoga Hikes Weekend – Sept 2016

In mid September 2016, we returned to one of our favourite hostels for another Grasmere yoga hikes weekend.  Its always a pleasure returning to the Grasmere independent hostel, as it is in such a great location and is pretty much immaculate inside.

After a few issues with the trains and traffic everyone arrived safe and sound on Friday evening and settled in for a good nights sleep.

Saturday morning started with two classes, one for beginners and one for intermediates, before breakfast.  We don’t always do this, but it works quite well at Grasmere and allows Yen to run a class more tailored to each group, rather than one general class with harder and easier options which is more normal.

After breakfast we strode out in the morning sunshine towards the village of Grasmere itself, then headed around the lakeshore to Loughrigg Terrace.

We then had a mid morning break (or second breakfast) overlooking Rydal Water.

It was a perfect morning for hiking and the views over the lakes were stunning as we continued to Rydal and back along the coffin trail to the viewpoint at White Moss.

We returned back to the hostel around mid afternoon for tea and Yen’s homemade cake outside, enjoying the last of the sunshine.

After some time to relax and then two more yoga classes it was time for dinner.  This was prepared by Yen and Kevin in the fantastic kitchen and dining room at the hostel.  A great end to our first day of the Grasmere yoga hikes weekend.

Grasmere yoga hikes Sunday walk

The weather on Sunday wasn’t quite as spectacular as on Saturday, but it stayed dry and we still had a great day out as we hiked up to Easedale Tarn.

There had been quite a lot of rain the previous week, so the waterfalls of Sourmilk Gill on the way up to Easedale Tarn were looking amazing.

Our lunch stop was at Easedale Tarn, but as it wasn’t exactly sunbathing weather, we didn’t linger for too long.

However, one of our group decided it was too good an opportunity to miss for a bit of wild swimming.

We had a final photo stop on the return hike over the footbridge at the bottom of Easedale, before we headed back to the hostel for more tea and Yens homemade cake, before departing.

Another great weekend with a wonderful group of people and this is just one of the reviews that we had following the weekend:

“I spent the last weekend on a yoga/hiking trip in the lakes with Kevin and Yen. I didn’t want the weekend to end! Was very well organised. The hostel was very comfortable and in a great location, close to Grasmere village and surrounded by lovely scenery. Kevin and Yen were really easy going and made everyone feel comfortable and relaxed. The yoga was very welcoming after hiking all day, and was suitable for people of all abilities. The food was great, Kevin and Yen cooked us up a delicious meal on the Saturday night. And the views from the hikes were just incredible. All in all a fantastic weekend – looking forward to the next one!”
