Our ethos, is that yoga hikes accommodation should be in a fantastic location for hiking in the mountains and offer something special, unique or interesting. So we use a wide variety of accommodation, in different locations, from budget to more expensive and from historic to more modern.
Wherever we stay, there are hiking routes directly from the doorstep and sometimes we have sole exclusive use which means the group can relax fully and make the most out of the facilities available to us. We also stay where we have use of an onsite dedicated room for our yoga practice, so you can literally roll out of bed in the morning to yoga class!
Each place we stay, has outside and inside space where you can read, chat or just enjoy the views. Tea and coffee making facilities are always available as well, either in the room, or in communal areas.
Here is a brief summary of the yoga hikes accommodation we use:
(For full accommodation details for each break and holiday, you can click on the accommodation tab to find out more)
Nab Cottage is a beautiful old cottage on the shores of Rydal Lake and was frequently visited by William Wordsworth. The cottage has lots of history and literary links with the Romantic poets, with a cosy living room and ‘opium den’. All bedrooms are different, and the barn has been converted to offer a purpose built yoga space with log burning fire. There are also gardens with a sauna and hot tub, and for the more adventurous, Rydal Lake is a few steps away for wild swimming (wetsuit recommended). We have sole use of Nab Cottage.
Rydal Hall is a Grade II listed stately home built in the 17th Century, and we have two choices of accommodation here. We use the Centre in the grounds as one of our more budget options on a sole use basis, with a stone Lakeland converted barn for yoga, We also use the Hall itself with the Drawing Room for yoga where there is a choice of single and twin rooms. Rydal Hall is ideally located for hiking and the grounds are beautifully maintained with a small waterfall running through.
Brathay Hall, part of the Brathay Trust is situated in the heart of the Lake District at the head of Lake Windermere. The impressive Brathay Hall, an elegant 18th Century Georgian country house is set in 360 acres of mature woodland and rolling pasture. The wonderful views have inspired artists and poets alike for centuries. Wordsworth, Coleridge and Constable have all been notable visitors to the Hall and its impressive gardens.
The Hall has a range of accommodation to suit all budgets and tastes and for our yoga hikes weekends we will have either comfortable single rooms or superior twin share rooms.
We also use Grasmere Independent Hostel as this allows us to run weekends very economically and still offer a unique experience. This hostel is on a working farm and has been rated as the best in the Lake District, the rooms are dormitory style but all have ensuite bathrooms. The hostel is exceptionally well maintained and it has a great yoga space and even a sauna. We have sole use of the hostel.
Set in a quiet, elevated position with panoramic views over the Vale of Esthwaite, Lake Windermere and the Fells beyond, Yewfield is situated in over 80 acres of its own grounds. The house itself, with its impressive Gothic architecture, dates back to 1859.
The extensive grounds around the house include native woodland, rough fell pasture, a small tarn and a stream. The grazed pasture is carefully managed giving priority to ecological considerations, which qualifies it to be part of the Environmentally Sensitive Areas Scheme. We also have a cosy purpose built studio in the garden for yoga with a log fire. All the food at Yewfield is vegetarian.
Our trips to Spain are set high up in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, on an organic farm, with spectacular views all around and great hiking choices. The farm offers simple but comfortable accommodation with a swimming pool and a purpose built yoga shala with mountain views to watch the sun rise as we practice yoga in the morning. Eating fresh produce and food from the farm and local area just adds to the experience. We have sole use of the farm.
