Our first 2019 Yoga Hikes break of the year was at the stunning Rydal Hall in the heart of the Lake District.
We started our first 2019 yoga hikes weekend break on Friday afternoon and there had been a lot of rain and wind, so the waterfall in the grounds of the hall was looking stunning in full flow:
Despite the Friday weather everyone arrived in time for the first evening and so we settled into our first class of the weekend, to destress after the journey and get to know each other.
We are so lucky at Rydal Hall to have a very grand and impressive room for the yoga classes and we have scheduled 5 classes for our first 2019 yoga hikes break. We start on Friday evening then we have classes before and after our hikes on Saturday and Sunday. So we have plenty of time to have a varied practice, incorporating many styles over the course of the weekend.
The evening classes are designed to stretch out and unwind after our journey or after each hike and the morning classes are more energising and aimed at preparing the body for the day and of course our hiking.
After a good nights sleep and our first class on Saturday its in for breakfast in the dining room and then get ready for our first hike of the weekend.
We prepare the packed lunches ourselves, so there is plenty of healthy snacks and even homemade vegan cake to keep everyone fuelled up during the day.
The weather forecast is for a windy day, but staying generally dry, so we head out at 10:00 well wrapped up for our hike to Grasmere today. Our route takes us alongside the Rydal Water, then up to visit the Rydal Caves.
Then its off to Grasmere where we stop by the lake and then village for lunch. Our return takes us past one of our favourite viewports at white moss.
Then just before getting back to the hall we are rewarded with a fantastic rainbow over the water.
On our return to the hall we have plenty of hot tea and coffee, more home made cake and a lovely fire to warm up in front of.
After a break to warm up and relax we have our second yoga class of the day, then dinner in the grand dining room.
On Sunday we hike south this time towards Ambleside and then skirt over and around Loughrigg Fell.
We stop at the top for one of our favourite viewpoints over the lake Windermere.
The weather improves a lot today and we have plenty of blue skies and sunshine as we stop for lunch at the stunning Loughrigg Tarn. We can enjoy the views over the water to the Langdale Pikes while we eat our lunch.
And we get more stunning views over Grasmere from Loughrigg Terrace on the way back.
And Rydal Water in the sunshine.
Then we finish our first 2019 yoga hikes break with our last yoga class, followed by tea and cake.
It was a fantastic first weekend break of the year in great accommodation, great yoga and some great hikes and even the weather was kind.
